Here's my latest brainstorm, you'll probably think it's a drop in the bucket....... but here goes. As we redevelop our website, let's make the colors of the catalog a different color! Different? How different, you might ask? Right now we try to complement each other so that going from the catalog to the web is something you don't notice.
It may not make a difference to the patron, but troubleshooting might be easier for us if we could say "on the page you are experiencing technical difficulties, can you tell me what color the page is, please" If the patron said lime green and we knew that lime green pages = catalog pages then we knew it was a III difficulty (disclaimer: i have not consulted with david about color choices so my random selection is not any reflection of III tastes) If they said, however, "my page is a lovely shade of elm green" then we could think about technical difficulties that might be associated with the website and which may be different than III. To further confuse matters, there is the "middle earth" where the calendar sits that is neither III nor the website. For us, it's important to know on what part of the website the patron is parked so that we can best help.
This is the start of a preliminary idea/article for MoMo - a kind of who does what. As our technical life gets more complicated, simple things like color coding might help. Let's go back to our inner kindergartener! What do you think? My inner 5 year old is telling me it's time to take off my shoes and play in the sandbox - good weekend all!
