Vision & Mission

This blog has been a'happening for two weeks now. Have we ever rolled up our figurative sleeves and just plainly stated what the vision of the ALD website is? Would it help solidify a direction, move us towards a common goal? For starters, here's some thoughts/comments:

: The ALD website is all about community, connection and interaction.

: We want to create a web presence that utilizes social networking tools to make a more interactive environment with the Library District's services and materials.

: The web will stay consistent with ALD's mission of a literate, informed and fulfilled community.

: Community - seeking out our community on the web in places they like to congregate. This means having a digital presence on myspace, del.icio.us, youtube (hey we just completed this one!), wikipedia, and many more places and spaces that i probably don't even know about yet. Community could also be about having space on our site where patrons could post upcoming meetings, programs, etc. Think of the community space in your facility re-created online!

: Connection and interaction seem to go hand in hand. Gone are the days of solely pushing information to patrons without a means for them to interact with us. Let them comment and create their own online community. Our facility-based programs facilitate connection and interaction; the web can do the same!

in sum:

"whereas resource borrowing/circulation and library visitor volume were the old library currency for securing funding, page views and resource downloads are the new currency" (source unknown)

Happy Monday!
